Rescue Organisation Ireland (ROI) in association with the World Rescue Organisation, are bringing the World Rescue Challenge to Ireland for the first time on September 3rd 5th, 2010. The Event will bring over 400 visitors to the city centre and is estimated to bring over 100k in revenue to Cork over the three days - a great boost to the local economy!

A group of local children were special guests this morning at Headland Archaeology,(Ireland) Ltd, Little Island Cork, where they got up close and personal with artifacts dating from the Late Pleistocene up to the post medieval period. The visit coincided with National Heritage Week which is coordinated by the Heritage Council. The aim of the week is to build awareness and education about Irelands heritage in order to encourage its conservation and preservation.

This year's Rose of Tralee finalists got to let off some steam yesterday before this weekend's big event, with a fun Camogie lesson from All-Ireland champions Offaly on their visit to the County Arms Hotel, Birr.

The Lakes 10k charity run takes place around Blessington Lakes on Saturday 25th September in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI). Organised by the Lakeshore Striders, The Lakes 10k is now in its second year and will undoubtedly again be a popular event set to attract 600 participants.

This morning, Thursday 12th, 120 amateur cyclists set off from Cork City Hall with cycling legend Sean Kelly for a 600km charity cycle in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland, Munster Branches. This year marks the tenth year of the annual cycle and promises to be the toughest Tour de Munster yet. The route through the six counties of Munster has changed this year and includes a stint up the steep mount of Patrick's Hill in Cork on the final day, testing the skill, ability and endurance of the cyclists to the maximum.
