Credit where it’s due: 10 new jobs created in Cork to serve credit union community

02 April 2014

Wellington IT Solutions has opened a new support and implementation office in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork. The office will employ 10 staff with 6 already in place and further job creation expected by the end of 2014.

With existing offices in Belfast, Dublin, and Warwick, Wellington IT Solutions is one of Ireland's longest established IT providers to credit unions. Following completion of the acquisition of the business and assets of Cork companies Octagon Computer Services and Longpines Software, in an expansion that is part of a €2 million of investment in Munster, Wellington is now the largest software provider to credit unions in Ireland, representing some 150 credit unions and 1.2 million members, with an asset base of around €6.5 billion.

The opening of the new office, which will service over 50 Munster based credit unions, is part of Wellington IT Solutions’ on-going investment in the credit union market to provide software solutions and services aimed at the harmonization of systems, processes and capabilities for credit unions throughout Ireland. This positive move will allow for greater depth of shareable knowledge amongst the Munster based credit union community, with synergy between members, staff and technologies.  It means members in Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and Waterford have more flexible access to their funds, with more services than many main banks can presently offer; and the credit unions who have embraced the new technology provided can enjoy the benefits of smarter systems and a local support team.

Commenting on the expansion, Alex Dunne, Director, Wellington IT Solutions said “This is an exciting move for the company and was the next obvious step for us following our new acquisition. This has been an extremely positive move that has made Wellington the biggest supplier to the credit union community in Munster, and indeed, Ireland.”

Adrian Garde, Manager of Wellington’s Cork office said “This investment in this Cork office is a very important step in the development of our software and services as we see increasing demand for improved technology within the sector. It follows on from the roll out of the CUAnywhere mobile app, our online banking service.  We have exciting expansion plans for the new office that will see us develop a training centre for the credit union community in the region, a place where they can come and learn how to best service and assist their members when it comes to IT facilities.”

Established in 1983, Wellington IT Solutions began by producing computer software for the Drinks Industry and can now number among its clients some of the most prestigious drinks companies in Ireland. The company diversified into credit unions in 1990, and today offers a wide range of services, from SMS text messaging to full EFT online and mobile banking facilities. The company’s continued success has been based on its ability to be agile, change and adapt throughout its long history.
