Flip It, have a Pancake Party! Join The National Children's Hospital Pancake Party 13th - 17th February 2015

27 January 2015

Newstalk’s George Hook today kick-started The National Pancake Party in aid of The National Children's Hospital, Tallaght which is taking place in the lead up to, and on, Pancake Tuesday 17th February.

The National Children’s Hospital has joined forces with Newstalk to ask the public to have a pancake party with a worthy twist. By hosting a Pancake Party you can help The National Children’s Hospital to raise vital funds needed to support over 60,000 sick children from all over Ireland who attend the hospital each year.

This year all funds raised for the hospital will be invested directly in a new Short Stay Observation Unit, the first of its kind in Ireland. It is hoped that by opening this Short Stay Observation Unit, many children will be assessed, observed and discharged as efficiently as possible, avoiding busy emergency departments, unnecessary waiting times and overnight stays. This unit will reduce admissions to the children’s wards, freeing up vital beds and alleviating stress on children and their families.

Speaking about the benefits this much needed unit will have on The National Children’s Hospital, Director of Fundraising and Events Ciara O’Grady said “The National Pancake Party is a major fundraising drive for us each year. It’s a time where we ask the public to support us by holding fun pancake parties anywhere and everywhere - home, schools, sports clubs or offices. We rely heavily on support such as this and generous donations to allow us to give children from around the country the best possible care, nothing less than they deserve. The funds this year will be invested directly into this Short Stay Observation Unit which will greatly reduce the waiting time and stress often associated with hospital visits for both the child and their family.”

Hosting a Pancake Party is so easy; you can make your own or buy some and invite your friends, work colleagues, neighbours or classmates.  By hosting a Pancake Party at home, in school or at work you can help to give sick children the medical care they deserve while helping their families, not to mention enjoying a fun and delicious activity.
