Over a hundred and fifty motorbikes took to the road this weekend for the ‘RevUp4DSI’ fundraising event for Down Syndrome Ireland. Bikers from across the country donned their helmets to explore the mysteries of Ireland’s countryside, all while fundraising for the charity organisation. This hugely exciting motorbike route offers some of the best scenic views in Ireland and those taking part get the chance to really appreciate them.

The event is a mystery tour motorbike trip that incorporates three stages taking in over 1000 km of stunning Irish landscape within a 3 day period. Bikers got sight of their route sheets for the first time on Saturday morning and headed off to Cavan via Dunboyne, Summerhill and Slane. After a short break the squad headed off to Enniskillen via beautiful Belleek and then headed South to Manorhamilton to meet up in Carraroe Retail Park in Sligo.  A Garda  escort brought the team  to The Clarion Hotel in Sligo for overnight celebrations and a barbeque. Sunday’s fun poker run format saw the team head to Donegal. Playing cards were distributed at checkpoints during Sunday’s run with super raffle prizes for the winning hands.

RevUp4DSI is one of the bigger and more popular fundraising activities organised by Down Syndrome Ireland and Rob Bright, Biker & Event Organiser from DSI had this to say, “The Irish motorbiking community can be really proud of the contribution they have made to Down Syndrome Ireland and the services they provide. These three days are an incredible experience and some of the scenery makes you realise how beautiful our country is. Every RevUp4DSI event that I have participated in, makes me feel so grateful for the new sights we bikers get the chance to discover. This event has raised over €1.5million for Down Syndrome Ireland over the past 11 years”.

The team at DSI work with families and from the child’s early development through to education on into adulthood and old age. The organisation has become Ireland’s primary source of expertise, support and information for people with Down syndrome, as well as their families and even the professional community. DSI received less than 5% of its costs from the state last year and balance continues to be raised through public fundraising activities such as RevU4DSI.
