From 400 people at Pieta House’s first Darkness Into Light in 2009, to 180,000 people last year, Darkness Into Light has become a movement across Ireland and all over the world. This Saturday, May 12th, VERDE LED, a leading Irish manufacturer of commercial energy saving LED lighting solutions, will join the movement and help illuminate the Carrigaline Darkness Into Light route thanks to a donation of 2,400 LED lights.

Darkness Into Light is Pieta House’s flagship annual fundraising and awareness event and this year, walks will take place in roughly 180 venues across Ireland and worldwide. Registered Darkness Into Light participants can join the Carrigaline event at 4.15am at Supervalu Car Park in the town, and follow the route which will be lit with the help of VERDE LED’s donation. The aim of the event is to promote suicide prevention and to tackle the stigma that leads people to the doors of Pieta House centres. 

Speaking about Darkness Into Light, Angela Horgan, Funding & Advocacy Coordinator with Pieta House Cork said “Our vision at Pieta House is to create a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. Darkness into Light is vital for our fundraising, for raising awareness, and for bringing people together as we do everything we can to bring about a suicide-free world.

“The event on May 12th is made possible by the wonderful support of the general public, and businesses like VERDE LED, who generously support the event in various ways. Of all of Pieta House’s centres, the Cork service is the busiest, seeing an average of 84 people every day, so it’s vital that we strive and continue to raise awareness and funds for the supports available.”
