Lights, Camera, Action! Every Kid's a Movie Star with Action Movie Summer Camps

16 July 2009

Cork based Martial Arts Academy, Cúram de Cara are putting out a call to all budding young Actors and Actresses to participate in their fun Action Movie Summer Camps that are being held throughout Cork this July and August. The 5 day summer camps are packed full of fun activities suitable for kids from age 8 upwards, where participants are taught a range of skills including basic martial arts, acrobatics, speech and drama, stunt choreography, and film making - under the guidance of the expert team of Qualified Instructors from Cúram de Cara's Academy of Martial Arts.

Action Movie Summer Camps are unique to Ireland, and are the brainchild of Liam Óg Griffin, Technical Director at Cúram de Cara, who developed the concept during his time working in the US with Hollywood Actor/Stuntman Mike Chat. "Mike appeared in many Hollywood Blockbusters with Jackie Chan, as well as in films such as Austin Powers and Power Rangers, and through him I learned the disciplines of stunt choreography."  Liam Óg, a 3rd Dan in Karate, as well as a qualified Health & Fitness Instructor who represented Ireland on several occasions at the WTKA World Karate Championships, added "I was introduced to Karate at a very young age and know firsthand the benefits it can offer young people.  Through the Action Movie Summer Camps we teach the skills to young people in a fun and interactive way.  The kids write their own scripts, help with the costume design, and become totally immersed in the Movie Project over the 5 days of the Camp."

There is something for everyone in the camps, from budding film makers, writers and actors, martial arts maniacs, to kids who wish to find an alternative to the traditional soccer camps to stay active during the summer.  No previous martial arts, acrobatics or acting experience is necessary and each activity is suitable for all ability levels.  It is a fun way to make new friends as well as an exciting alternative to thumb twiddling away the summer!

The fun also, does not stop when the camp is over as Liam and his team organise a special Oscars Awards Ceremony at the end of August.  At this event all the movies, produced by the various camps will have a Big Screen Gala Premier in front of the kids' friends and families, and each will receive their very own DVD of their movie to cherish forever.

The Action Movie Summer Camps are on-going at the moment in a wide range of locations through Cork city and county including Wilton, Macroom, Bishopstown, Silver Springs and Ballincollig.  There are spaces still left on some of the camps with special discounts for families or for budding Movie Stars who would like to participate on more than one camp.  Further details on the Action Movie Camps can be found on www.actionmoviecamp.ie or by calling Liam Óg on (086) 1580560.
