Waveform Solution's GPS tracking system keeps business transparent

A problem often faced by project managers working on building sites is that of the logistics of material being delivered on time to the exact requirements. Knowing the production status in advance will also  help a company to schedule future work. Architectural Aluminium, a leading curtain walling, glazing and cladding company has worked on numerous commercial projects such as at Dublin Airport Piers C, D and E, Georges Quay Plaza, Dublin and the Independent News and Media building on the Naas Road. 

This work is extremely intricate and requires vast numbers of bespoke components cut and fabricated to exact requirements in order to create the desired structure. Waveform Solutions, a company which has been providing data capture and mobility solutions to clients since 1988 has put in place a specifically designed solution for Architectural Aluminium which has resulted in increased transparency, accuracy and  better communication for all involved.

Alan Carroll and the technical team at Waveform Solutions worked with project managers Brian Kenny and Declan Cregan on implementing this solution. They used a combination of hardware and software applications including Honeywell Dolphin mobile computers, Cisco Wireless network, Zebra barcode label printers and the Waveform WIP (work in progress) tracking software. All goods are bar coded and tracked throughout the process providing the company with a real time view of all jobs being processed. Interestingly the Honeywell handheld devices use a GPS (Global positioning system) which is a first for Waveform Solutions. This system records every single detail and can even provide a map co-ordinating the point of delivery. It can also verify whether or not service calls were attempted by drivers delivering the goods.Declan Cregan, software developer with Architectural Aluminium says of the system;

"We've been using the system now for a few months and already we see the benefits. From design, production to site, the whole system is completely transparent. Any department can log on and see at  what stage the items are located in the process. Every single item is being tracked, this will help to improve efficiency and also flag any errors at source thus eliminate any foreseeable problems. This will help us to plan our future projects."
