The Sulan Film Society hosts season finale with screening of 'Departures' at The Briery Gap, Macroom

27 April 2010

Last night, Monday 26th April, The Sulan Film Society hosted its season finale at the Briery Gap Theatre, Macroom, with a screening of the Academy Award Winner and Best Foreign Language Film, 'Departures'.

The popular choice for art-house cinema had film goers queuing in anticipation for the Japanese movie, which is a delightful and sensitive journey into the heartland of Japan, and an astonishingly beautiful look at a sacred part of Japan's cultural heritage.

The Sulan Film Society has over forty members and was set up by local film enthusiasts Cormac Sheil and Anne-marie Lucey 14 years ago. The enthusiastic film club allows film-goers to enjoy screenings of films, which would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas. The Briery Gap facilitates access to the best of national and international films, giving audiences the opportunity to see a diverse programme of art-house cinema not otherwise available to them locally.

The Sulan Film Society organiser Cormac said: "The screening of 'Departures' was a great way to end what has been a very successful season of films for us. I'm looking forward to next season's mix of movies which will start in September."

Next season's brochure will be sent out during the summer. Membership is free and for those interested in signing up to the club, email sulan_filmsociety@hotmail.com. You can also join The Sulan Film Society fan page on facebook.
