Happy New Year! Come and celebrate the year of the Rabbit at the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant

26 January 2011

The Chinese community in Ireland is one of the longest established migrant groups in the country and have been living in Ireland in significant numbers since the 1950s.  The most important event on the Chinese calendar takes place next month, when the extravagant celebrations begin for the Chinese New Year 2011!  The Celebrations run from Thursday 3rd February for 15 days.  Each year represents one of twelve animals and this year we are celebrating the Year of the Rabbit! To help mark this special event, The Ambassador Chinese Restaurant in Cork City, is introducing a Chinese New Year Celebration menu which, like our Christmas turkey, is traditionally eaten at this time of year.

Just as Chinese families will gather together for an elaborate dinner - consisting of the best dishes, guests at the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd February will get to indulge too! The menu will include Eight Treasure Soup (consisting of eight ingredients, eight is also a lucky number in the Chinese culture), Traditional Roast Duckling on the Bone (for a fuller flavour) , Stir-fried Chicken with Chinese Tung Gu & Asparagus, along with Chinese tea in two different flavours.

Also anyone dinning in the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant from Monday the 31st January will be entitled to 20% off the special screening of the Chinese State Circus - Mulan, in the Cork Opera House on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th February (just make sure you keep your receipt!).

Family run since 1987, The Ambassador Chinese restaurant, is one of the most established restaurants in Cork and Owner William Wong, is looking forward to the celebrations. William states "Even though I consider myself a Corkonian, I am also from China and we keep our traditions sacred. We're also as good as the Irish for parties so I can't wait for the celebrations to begin!  Cork is such a friendly place, now internationally recognised for this fact and it's nice to be able to have a celebration that can involve everyone in Cork who enjoys good food."

"Like the Irish, the Chinese have a passion and pride for great food. We here at the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant take immense passion for cooking but also great pride in the fact that all the meats and seafood in our extensive menu are sourced locally."

So what's in store for anyone born this year, the year of the Golden Rabbit?  For anyone born in this year it is said that they are reasonably friendly individuals who enjoy the company of a group of good friends.  They are good teachers, counsellors and communicators, but also need their own space.
