TWITTER TRIAL REWARDS CHARITY WITH €2,000 DONATION IN ONE DAY!

26 May 2011

A spontaneous Twitter experiment and a generous response by the Irish business community has resulted in a fantastic donation worth €2,000 for The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.

@twitsontrial, an anonymous internet user, decided to set up a Twitter account on the morning of the #twitterontrial experiment to see how many followers he could get in a day, and to take part generally.

When the initial target of getting 100 followers was smashed in less than an hour, @twitsontrial decided to up the target again to 500.

"I was amazed at how quickly people followed the account” said @twitsontrial. "I thought it might be an idea to see if anyone would be interested in donating to charity if I got 500 followers. The response was incredible, and I am delighted that the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland will be better off as a result of the #twitterontrial day. It goes to show what can be done in a short amount of time, and the generosity of the Irish business community on Twitter.

The kind donations were made by @CKennedyPR who donated €500; @DiamondsIRL who donated €500 worth of precious stones for auction; @the_WineStore who donated a case of wine worth €500; and @oherlihycomms who offered a €500 PR Campaign for auction.

Commenting on the #twitterontrial experiment CFAI CEO Philip Watt (@65osesireland) said "We were absolutely delighted to be the recipient of these wonderful donations which will go towards helping to provide vital isolation facilities in hospitals throughout the country for people living with CF. Sincere thanks to everyone who made such wonderful donations and also to @twitsontrial for their ingenuity and for choosing CFAI as the recipient charity. It just goes to show what innovation and generosity from the online business community can achieve".
