MALTON HOTEL CUSTOMERS TO BENEFIT FROM LOWER VAT RATES

The Malton Hotel in Killarney has pledged that it will be offering customers significant reductions on the cost of accommodation and food from July 1st.

The reduction in the 13.5% VAT rate to 9% will come into effect on that date and while many hotels have not yet made a decision on whether to pass on these savings to their customers, the Malton Hotel has announced that guests will enjoy these benefits in full which will be particularly relevant for people booking their wedding at the hotel.

The announcement was made by General Manager Conor Hennigan on Sunday 5th June at the Wedding Journey, Kerry’s largest wedding Fayre, which took place at the hotel. Speaking to couples at the event, Mr Hennigan said "We are delighted to announce that from July 1st 2011, the current VAT rate of 13.5% will be reduced to 9% and The Malton are passing this saving directly onto you.

In effect this will mean a reduced price on the food portion of your wedding package as well as lower accommodation rates for your guests. In all, you can expect to make an average saving of €500 on your wedding costs".

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan announced this temporary reduction in VAT on May 11th as part of the Government’s jobs initiative.

The reduction of the VAT rate from 13.5 % to 9% will apply to hotels and restaurants, as well as service industries such as cinemas, theatres and sporting facilities. Hairdressers are also included, while various printed materials such as brochures and programmes also fall under the new lower rate. The new rate will be effective from July 1st until the end of December 2013.

The Wedding Fayre on June 5thsaw some of Munster’s top wedding professionals on display in the beautiful surroundings of The Malton Hotel, one of Kerry’s most popular wedding venues. Hundreds of people attended the event, which incorporated three bridal fashion shows, performances from top musician Liam O’ Connor and much more.
