‘CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT’ SUNDAY DECEMBER 11TH, 7 P.M. ST. PATRICKS CHURCH, ROCHESTOWN RD. Fundraising Night for the Adult Leukaemia Ward at CUH

29 November 2011

Due to the severity of his condition Domnic ended up staying in hospital for the 10 weeks prior to his death. He just got home for one week in between, and the odd weekend, or maybe just a Sunday afternoon.  But ward 2 D in the C.U.H, the Adult Leukaemia Ward,  really was his home for two and a half months.

The hospital stay for patients with acute leukaemia is unfortunately a long one. The risk of infection is high, therefore visitors are limited, and the opportunity to visit can often be confined to direct family members.

In order to avoid infection the rooms are isolated. This meets the clinical needs of patients. However this isolation tends to be very lonely for the patients, and although clinically effective, it does not cater for their social needs.

Dominic’s wife, Aiveen Casey who is one of the organisers of the fundraiser stated “It is extremely important, for the sake of the patients, that these rooms are re-furbished to give a pleasant, comfortable and homely environment with modern I.T. and communication facilities. Many patients keep in contact with their families through the use of ‘Skype’. At times, this can be their only visual contact with home over a lengthy period.”

Aiveen having spent ten weeks visiting her husband Dominic at CUH, realises the urgency of this project. Together with family and friends, she is organising a carol concert to raise these urgently required funds. With your generous help, you can make all the difference to those patients in Ward 2D.

“With the help of generous financial donations to Ward 2D through A.C.T, a renovation project was undertaken on Monday the 14th of November, 2011. There are only enough funds to cover the refurbishment of two rooms. There are a further eight rooms left to be renovated, and to be made as comfortable and socially adequate as possible for the patients of the ward.”

The concert promises to capture the joyous mood of Christmas, and put everybody in the perfect festive spirit.   Tickets are available from Aiveen Casey 087-2505782, and Lucia Mulcahy-O'Nolan 087-2425306 and are priced at €10 for Adults and €3 for children.  There will also be a number of tickets available on the day.
