The Roxy’s Fundraiser for St. Vincent de Paul going strong!

13 December 2011

Into its second week, the fundraising amount is growing steadily and the total funds raised will be announced at the end of the initiative.

The Roxy Owner, Peter Kingston said he was delighted with the money raised so far “It’s only week one and we have already raised a significant amount for St Vincent de Paul, so we are really excited about the grand total. Our customers are really getting in to the Christmas spirit this year, and are being really generous. Even Thursday night, which was not included in the fundraising initiative, has been a big contributor to this week’s total. People are actually asking us if they can contribute €2 to their entry fee towards our St Vincent de Paul fund.”

It’s great to see Cork people so keen to give back” he continued. “We’re delighted we have decided to run this campaign because everyone needs to get involved this Christmas, it will be a tough time for a lot of families.”

Every Friday to Sunday throughout December, The Roxy is inviting its patrons to join them in giving something back this festive season. Revellers will enjoy entry into Cork’s newest hotspot, with €2 from each admission going to help Cork families struggling to get by this Christmas. At the end of each week, monies raised will be passed directly to St. Vincent de Paul, as just before Christmas is one of their busiest periods, and families in need appreciate help prior to the holiday season as opposed to January when they are under a little less pressure.

St Vincent de Paul Regional President, Brendan Dempsey said “We are delighted to have The Roxy on board for this fundraising initiative, and we are grateful for the support their customers are so readily lending.  Over the past two years the calls for help we receive have doubled. Two years ago the number of calls for help was just over 5,000. This year the figure is already at over 10,000. That shows the level of difficulties which people are facing and the problems that they feel they cannot deal with themselves. This Christmas is going to be our most challenging yet, with people who have never sought help before, now coming to us because they find themselves suffering as a result of the financial challenges we face as a nation.”

Management at The Roxy reserves right to refuse admission. For further details on opening times and the St Vincent de Paul initiative, find them on facebook at The Roxy Night Club Cork.
