A Hole in One for The Malton’s Conor Hennigan at The Golfers Guide to Ireland Awards

07 February 2012

2012 is already shaping up to be another successful and memorable year on the awards front for The Malton, as General Manager, Conor Hennigan walked away with the accolade of "Best Hotel Manager" the Golfers Guide to Ireland inaugural awards ceremony held last week.

The Golfers Guide to Ireland, published annually for the past 21 years, is Ireland's longest established golf guide with a distribution of over 50,000 copies, and to mark the 21st year of the guide, publishers Portside Publications inaugurated an awards programme to recognise leadership roles played by Irish Golf Clubs and associated golf interests on the whole island of Ireland.

The award winners represent a virtual who's who of the best in Irish golf under various category headings ranging from all Ireland to provincial links and parklands golf; from golf resorts to hotels like The Malton specialising in golf; and golf club secretaries to managers. Minister of State for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring TD presented Conor and the other winners with a unique Graham Knuttle commissioned ceramic wall plaque crafted by Tipperary Crystal at the awards ceremony in O'Connell's Restaurant, Donnybrook, Dublin.

Commenting on his award, Conor said "Golf in Kerry is regarded with such high esteem that I'm honoured to have won this award. At The Malton we pride ourselves on our golfing expertise and links and believe we can offer golfers of all abilities an unforgettable experience. These awards are given on the basis of an all-Ireland poll from golf and golf-related communities, so it means a lot to be recognised amongst my peers."

Conor was not the only Kerry and Killarney winner at the awards ceremony, with Killarney Golf & Fishing Club walking away with the accolade of "Best Parkland Course" & Maurice O'Meara winning the "Best Secretary Manager" - a trio of awards for Killarney.
