Cork businessman, John Mullinsappointed as Chairman of Global Cork Business Forum

Organisers of Cork Rebel Week are pleased to announce that Cork businessman, John Mullins has been appointed as the Chairman for the inaugural Global Cork Economic Forum and Networking Event which will take place on October 17th and 18th as part of Cork Rebel Week.

Mullins will chair the steering committee, made up of the County and City Mayors and Managers, as well as number of Irish based representatives from profile Cork Multinational and SMEs, and representatives from political, sport and cultural spheres, which will lead the agenda for the two day business event this October taking place in City Hall, Cork. The highly respected and influential committee will also implement a detailed objective policy plan following the business forum.

As a Cork Native, immediate past President of Cork Chamber, newly appointed Chairman of the Port of Cork, former CEO of Bord Gais, and owner of consultancy firm, Augmentis Ireland, Mullins has a true understanding of Cork’s Economic vision and development for the region, and brings extensive experience to his new role. 

As Chairman of the Global Cork Economic Forum, Mullins is encouraging the Irish business diaspora to return to Cork this October to join in meaningful discussions and gain a greater understanding of economic renewal and job creation opportunities specific to Cork County and City. Together with his steering committee, Mullins is in the process of personally inviting some of the most influential Cork and Cork-connected individuals from abroad, all of whom have demonstrated, or would like to demonstrate, a strong affiliation with Cork and Ireland, to join in a more serious side of Cork Rebel Week later this year.  

He said “The clear objective of this Forum is to ensure that we invite the best business talent in various sectors, including agrifood, pharmachem, ICT and energy, as well as tourism, entrepreneurship and research to Cork to focus on ideas that will benefit the region so that we can create jobs for those who live here or those who would like to return. We are inviting those Cork citizens who are working in larger markets, larger businesses with larger vision to come back and help us to devise the way forward. The Global Cork Economic Forum will give us the chance to gather ideas for a path to renewed economic prosperity for our region and meaningful employment for those who have left or who have no jobs.

”Speaking about the inspiration for the Global Cork Economic Forum, Chairman, John Mullins said “There are many of our diaspora who would not recognise the Cork of today in comparison to the Cork of the 1960s and 1970s. The face of industry has significantly changed to one of high value products and services domination by a vibrant FDI sector in the region. But they would recognise some aspects: unemployment, emigration and recession.
