"Rebels with a Cause" - Support Munster's sick children on Cork Independence Day

24 July 2013

As part of the Cork Rebel Week celebrations later this year, Cork University Hospital's Children's Unit, which is the official Charity Partner of Cork Rebel Week 2013 is calling on businesses in the City and County to get behind the fundraising drive on Cork’s first Independence Day, Wednesday 16th October, to raise vital funds for the Children’s Unit.

On Cork Independence Day over 50 "Visa Checkpoints" around the city and county, will control entry to "the real capital", and it's all in the name of a very good cause, the Children’s Unit at Cork University Hospital (CUH), helping thousands of sick children from all over Munster.

Marie Watson, Nurse Manager of the Children’s Unit said “We need to transform the unit to meet the needs of the 10,000 children we see through our doors every year. We need the support of all Cork people to ensure our kids receive their care in the best possible facilities and this fundraising activity around Cork Independence Day has the potential to help raise the funds we so desperately need to make these vital improvements happen.”

Marie added “Over the next few weeks we will be calling on businesses in the city and county, asking each and every one of them for their support, looking for volunteers who will give of their time on Cork Independence Day to help man our checkpoints and also we are looking for businesses who will act as selling points for the Cork Visas.”

The Cork Visas will be available to purchase for just €2 from shops and various outlets around the city and county from this month, right up to Cork Independence Day, or directly at the “Checkpoints” on the day itself. All proceeds from the Cork Visa will go directly the Children’s Unit at the CUH, the official charity partner for Cork Rebel Week, 2013.
