‘The Streets of Cork’ Photographic Exhibition Sponsored by City Life: Wealth Advisors

13 November 2013

Since February of this year, amateur photographer, Alwyn Jennings, has been taking beautiful black and white images of people on the streets of Cork and publishing them on his facebook page ‘The Streets of Cork'.  Now for the first time, some of these images will be on display and for sale in the ‘real world' at Alwyn's first Photographic Exhibition sponsored by City Life: Wealth Advisors, with all proceeds going to the CUH Children's Unit.  The exhibition will run for one week from Friday 15th November in Cork City Hall Atrium.

The photos celebrate the wonderfully eclectic mix of people who make up the streets of Cork, and have been captured on Alwyn's vintage camera using black and white film.  Since February the images have gone viral worldwide, and his followers on facebook have grown to nearly 10,000, with some of the photos shared thousands of times.

The photographs have really connected with people including Cork native Eamon Dwyer, Managing Director of City Life: Wealth Advisors.  Eamon stated "I came across ‘The Streets of Cork' and decided to see if Alwyn was interested in sharing the photos with the people of Cork in a more traditional setting through a photographic exhibition.  Alwyn's work captures the heart and soul of Cork, and with our family and our business very much part of the fabric of business life in Cork, we thought it was a good thing to support and bring Alwyn's work to a new audience."

Eamon's father Ted founded City Life in 1971, and Eamon is now CEO.  The Dwyer family are steeped in the history of Cork, and for generations in their own way have been part of the ‘Streets of Cork'.Eamon and Alwyn jointly decided to donate the proceeds of any sale of the limited edition pieces to the CUH Children's Unit as the unit is in dire need of funding.  Dr David Mullane, Consultant Pediatrician, who is Head of the Children's Unit stated "The funds raised through the exhibition will help improve the outdated facilities for the 10,000 children and their families who attend the Unit each year."

Photographer Alwyn Jennings added "This is a charity very close to my heart as my own son Michael spent some time in the CUH Children's unit this year and it gives me an opportunity to use my work to give something back.  I have taken great care in the production of each piece and the 20 prints are some of the favourite photos of people I have taken on the streets of Cork in the past year - with each one carrying its own unique story."

Lord Mayor Cllr Catherine Clancy who was present at the announcement of the Photographic Exhibition stated "Cork City Hall Atrium is the perfect place to house this exhibition and we are delighted to act as hosts for the week.  ‘The Streets of Cork' has resonated with so many people and I am delighted to see some of the work shared with even more people, including many who may not have access to facebook."

All of the pieces are collectors' items, are limited editions and signed by the photographer and produced and framed to the highest quality.  Viewing of the Photographic Exhibition will take place from Friday 15th November to Friday 22nd November, during office hours 9am to 5pm.

Details of how to purchase these limited editions are available on ‘The Streets of Cork' facebook page or on www.citylife.com.
