30 January 2014

Eithne Byrne has cared for the elderly in her community since she was 11-years old. Through Comfort Keepers she studied and received her carers qualification and has worked with the company for over a year.

Eithne said:  “I am shocked but proud to be chosen as the carer of the year by my clients. This is such an achievement. I would highly recommend caring as a profession and working with Comfort Keepers in particular. They provide the support we need to care for others.”

Comfort Keepers assist people to live independently at home and in their community supporting the highest quality of life that is achievable. They care for their clients with the respect and dignity they deserve as though caring for a family member.

One of Eithne’s clients who recommended her for the award said: “Eithne has been with me through very difficult times.  She is always reliable, caring and consistent in her work and her care for me.”

Eithne Byrne was one of four finalists from all over the country who were nominated by their clients for their tireless efforts and kindness they show everyday when looking after their emotional and physical needs.

Managing Director of Comfort Keepers Home, Bob Power said:  “It was very difficult to pick a winner from our regional finalists; Eithne is ‘the first of equals’. The standard of care they provide is second to none and their openess to help and dedication to their clients is impressive.”

It has been estimated that 28% of Irish nursing home residents have a low to moderate dependency level and many of these residents might very well have continued to live at home if the right supports had been made available to them at the appropriate time.

Comfort Keepers provides high quality care to older people in their own homes in 18 counties and 24 HSE administrative areas and their offices cover 85% of the population.

About Comfort Keepers:

Comfort Keepers is a leading provider of top quality home care in Ireland.  A family owned and Irish run organisation, Comfort Keepers employs 1,100 qualified carers all of whom have either a nursing or social care background, meaning they have the best skills to deal with even the most complex of cases. The organisation operates 17 offices throughout the country and differentiates itself from its competitors by its ”person- centred” ethos – providing not just a service, but an all-encompassing companionship to clients, treating them as if they were a member of their own family.

Comfort Keepers’ carers are carefully screened through a series of six background checks, and are fully insured. All caregivers are employees of Comfort Keepers and Comfort Keepers takes care of paying all employee taxes, including PRSI, so that families do not have to register as employers which they would have to do otherwise.

Comfort Keepers offers a wide range of home based, non-medical services ranging from a daily visit, help with personal care to running errands and grocery shopping.
