Teamwork.com announced as Team Battleborn sponsor for gruelling Pacific Row world record attempt

22 May 2014

As it embarks on the challenge of a lifetime, Team Battleborn, the four man team taking part in the Great Pacific Race 2014, is delighted to announce a major sponsorship deal with Teamwork.com. Leading global player in online project management software development, Teamwork.com, who earlier this year invested heavily in its growing business with the acquisition of the domain ‘Teamwork.com’ for a staggering $675,000 (c. €500,000), has now invested €10,000 in another thriving team, Team Battleborn, as it attempts to break a world record by rowing over 2,100 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean this June. The world record attempt skipper, Irish man, Philip Cavanagh from Dublin, who is the only Irish man in the race, is to become the first Irish person to row across the Pacific Ocean. The four man Battleborn crew is made up of three nationalities, which includes Ireland, UK and Australia. Starting in California on June 7th, Team Battleborn, sponsored by Teamwork.com, will row non-stop in shift patterns of two hours on, two hours off until they reach Hawaii approximately five weeks later.

Peter Coppinger, co-founder and CEO of Teamwork.com explains why Team Battleborn was the ideal fit for a sponsorship deal “At Teamwork we understand the value of hard work and commitment, and when we heard about the challenge that Team Battleborn will undertake, we felt we could really relate to it. These guys have worked hard to prepare for the biggest and most exciting challenge of their lives, and the return and feeling of euphoria when they succeed will certainly be worth all the time and energy they have invested. We wish Philip and his crew every success on the most exciting journey of their lives.”

The entire trip will be documented on the Team Battleborn blog through the team’s website with regular videos and photos on their progress. For the duration of the race, the team will survive on only items contained in the boat including vacuum packed dry food, a water maker, navigation equipment, and daily karaoke sessions (courtesy of Philip!).

Not only does this challenge of a lifetime entail weeks of continuous rowing, the team has also had to prepare for the possible obstacles that may come across along the way, including shark attacks, torrential weather, illness, sea sickness, tiredness, sleep deprivation, changing temperatures, and possible hurricanes. To date the team has been engaged in a very intense training schedule which comprises of a minimum of 12 training sessions per week to help prepare them for what lies ahead.

Philip Cavanagh says their months of training has prepared them for the challenge that lies ahead, but without the sponsorship of Teamwork.com their world record attempt would not have been possible: “Undertaking the Great Pacific Race is challenging on a number of levels; obviously there is the time and energy that my crew has invested since we decided to enter, but there’s also the financial side of it. We needed to ship our boat to California for example, and without the generous sponsorship of Teamwork.com this might not have been possible, so we are extremely grateful.”

As well as the world record attempt, Team Battleborn hopes to raise in excess of €100,000 for charity as part of the challenge. Their chosen charities are the Irish Guide Dogs and Aware.
