Cork Heroes take up residence in The SugarCube on The South Mall.

03 July 2014

As The SugarCube, Cork’s most popular Creperie, is located in the centre of Cork City it is the perfect venue for Cork’s most well-known heroes to congregate. This week thanks to famous graphic artist Will Sliney, that’s exactly where they’ll be.

Cork’s acclaimed, such as Sonia O’Sullivan, Roy Keane, Graham Norton and Michael Collins to name a few will be become regulars at The SugarCube as Cork-based graphic artist Will Sliney has been commissioned to illustrate an image of some of Cork’s most well known faces onto the side of the cube located on the South Mall.

Will who has just recently completed his dream job working on the new Spiderman series is one of Ireland’s most famous graphic artists. Having graduated from CIT he went on to become the first Irish person to have his own 12- part series and now is living out his dream working with Marvel Comics.

Owner of the SugarCube Ernest Cantillon says “Will has such an amazing talent and I always strive to support our own here in Cork. The image he created is superb and we purposely haven’t included the names of the Cork heroes in the picture to help encourage tourists to engage with locals and ask who each one is. It’s a way for visitors to connect with local people and culture and it will hopefully become a talking point. The SugarCube already attracts numerous tourists and now this image will help showcase some of the famous Cork people who we are proud to say are from Cork.”

The SugarCube is famous for promoting Cork and business was one of the first businesses in Cork to jump on board with Linked Finance with a €10,000 investment launch through crowd-funding. It is reaping a great return one year later and is one of the major success stories of crowd-funding in Cork.
