Cork businesses get on their bikes for Dusk ‘Til Dawn charity night cycle

11 July 2014

Business people will swap suits for lycra tonight for a unique charity relay cycle in which 180km will be covered in one night.

The Dusk ‘til Dawn initiative will see representatives from companies cycle in a relay from Cork to Crosshaven (60Km), and back three times, over the course of the night.

FitzGerald Solicitors has organised the event, in association with the Tour De Munster, to bring together the business community in Lapps Quay with the goal of raising funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI).

All money raised from the event will go towards this very worthy charity.

The cycling convoy will set off from the Clarion Hotel at 11pm with the second leg expected to set off at 1.30am and the third at 4am. The dedicated cyclists on the last leg of the relay are expected to pedal back to the finish line as the sun rises over the city on Saturday morning.

Noel Doherty, Managing Partner with FitzGerald Solicitors, which is itself located in Lapps Quay, thanked all those who sacrificed their night’s sleep to take part in the cycle.

“We really are very grateful to all those who have shown such dedication and support for this event and for their fundraising efforts for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI),” he stated.

Noel’s colleague and fellow partner of FitzGerald Solicitors Sean O’Riordan said: “Down Syndrome Ireland is a cause close to our hearts for the incredible work it does to provide support, resources and a voice for those with Down Syndrome and their families. The funds raised will benefit all the Munster branches of DSI.”

Pat Clarke, Chief Executive of Down Syndrome Ireland said: “We simply cannot thank FitzGerald’s enough for organising this unique fundraiser. At a time when charities are finding it increasingly difficult to raise funds an initiative like this is so welcome. Down Syndrome Ireland is 97pc funded by voluntary donations so charity events like this prove invaluable for us in providing vital supports and resources to our members. Once again I would like to thank each and every person involved in this fantastic fundraising event.”

A back-up car will follow cyclists throughout the journey to ensure safety is paramount.
