The annual Sean Dunne Memorial Cycle in aid of Carlow/ Kilkenny Palliative Care is set to take place this Saturday, August 18th, and is once again sponsored by Newpark Hotel.
Since its inception in 2015, this fantastic event has grown year on year, and has raised over €17,000 to help provide palliative care to cancer patients at home in the region. This year the popular cycle takes place earlier than normal in the year, and it is hoped that favourable weather will encourage a large number of cyclists to join the fundraiser.
The cycle, which is also known locally as ‘Cycle 2 Shave’, was founded by former employee of Newpark Hotel, Jimmy Dunne in memory of his father Sean Dunne who sadly passed away in May 2015 from lung cancer at the age of 54, after being diagnosed the previous July. This year the chosen beneficiary is Carlow/ Kilkenny Palliative Care who the Dunne family received support from during Sean’s illness.
Cyclists can sign up on the day and will have the choice of two route options, 50km or 100km; with registration for both taking place in the dance studio on the first floor of Escape Health Club & Spa at Newpark Hotel.
For anyone doing the 100km cycle, registration starts at 8.30am, with the cycle departing at 9am; while registration for the 50km cycle will start at 10am, leaving the hotel at 10.30am. Participation costs €25 and includes the cycle, insurance and a summer BBQ on The Terrace at Newpark after the cycle.
Speaking about Newpark Hotel’s sponsorship of the charity cycle, Mark Dunne, General Manager of Newpark Hotel said “We’re delighted to once again lend our support to the Sean Dunne Memorial Cycle which raises vital funds to help those in need of palliative care in Kilkenny and Carlow. A number of our own team will participate in the cycle and those not participating will be here to welcome cyclists back at the end of their journey and look after them on The Terrace with a tasty barbeque and refreshments.”
