Celebrities Line Out for Spring Clean for Charity

Norma Smurfit, the driving force behind some of Ireland’s biggest and best fundraising events, was this week joined by a host of famous faces to promote the upcoming Spring Clean for Charity event that takes place in Cork City Hall on Saturday, September 24th.  Bill Cullen, Jackie Lavin, Lorraine Keane and Celia Holman Lee, pledged to de-clutter their homes and donate items in support of Cork’s biggest charity sale, and are asking you to do the same.

Spring Clean for Charity will feature bric-a-brac, trinkets and fashion from all over the country; and these and other well-known personalities including Cork’s own Roy Keane, who will be participating in the event; and celebrity chefs Rachel Allen and Clodagh McKenna are donating personal items to help raise funds for St. Vincent de Paul Cork and disadvantaged youth in Ireland.

In addition to the well known celebrities and business people getting involved, the general public, as well as various groups and associations are being asked to take a look around their homes, offices, attics and garages, and clear out belongings that are no longer used; items that could be sold to raise money for St. Vincent de Paul, Cork.

Speaking about Spring Clean for Charity 2011, Norma stated “The response we have already received has been amazing, but not surprising.  So many people have pledged their support, and we have some really great items up for grabs including two original jackets belonging to the late Rory Gallagher, as well as Clodagh McKenna’s famous red apron!  We want as many groups, organisations and individuals to join us, take stalls and do something really positive for the Cork community and that’s what it’s all about.”

She continued, “St. Vincent de Paul, now more than ever needs our support and Spring Clean for Charity is a fun way, with friends, family or colleagues, to raise funds that will go directly to people in need in Cork -it is also a great excuse to have a good clear out of all those items cluttering up people’s homes and businesses. The event on September 24th is going to be great fun, and an opportunity to meet Cork soccer legend, Roy Keane and other surprise guests.”

Taking a stall at the charity sale is SIMPLE AND FREE!  All proceeds raised from the sale of your items must go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Cork.  To book a stall, simply visit the Spring Clean for Charity website at www.springcleanforcharity.ie, email help@springcleanforcharity.ie or call Dearbhla on (086) 8221751 to register your interest.

If you can’t host a stall don’t worry, you can still come along on September 24th for a fun day of bargain hunting and celebrity spotting with family and friends.  Entry to City Hall for Spring Clean for Charity is just €5 at the door (kids under 12 go free) and all proceeds go to St. Vincent de Paul, Cork and disadvantaged youth in Ireland.
