15 July 2015

More than 70 daring and dedicated cyclists pedalled through the night of Friday, July 10th to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland on the Dusk ‘Til Dawn 2015 fundraising cycle organised by FitzGerald Solicitors, 6 Lapp’s Quay, Cork.

The unique and innovative night cycle saw an almost three-fold increase in participants compared to its debut year last year. The soft rain that fell earlier that evening cleared just as cyclists gathered at Lapp’s Quay, before setting off on their night adventure at 11pm on Friday night.

The sporting event wasn’t for the faint-hearted with cyclists covering over 120km by pedalling from Cork to Crosshaven, twice, over the course of the night. The cyclists crossed the finish line at dawn on Saturday, July 11th and were greeted by a spectacular sunrise over the River Lee along with well-deserved freshly-baked croissants, teas and coffees. Food and refreshments throughout the night were provided by FitzGerald Solicitors and the Coffee Pod on Lapp’s Quay.

According to Noel Doherty, partner with FitzGerald Solicitors, Lapp’s Quay, this year’s event was a resounding success.

“So many cyclists from different walks of life and of various abilities participated. The event was filled with fun and companionship and everybody was catered for,” he said.

“There was a great buzz throughout the night with some cyclists even opting to cycle to Crosshaven and back a third time covering almost 200 km. The sense of camaraderie was wonderful and we were thrilled to raise much-needed funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland.”

100% of the registration fees and generous donations made by local business supporters will go toward the very worthy charity. It’s hoped that next year will be an even greater success.
