Film In Cork announces details of 2017 Short Script Award, with €8,000 up for grabs

27 October 2016

Film In Cork is looking for original, entertaining stories by talented filmmakers who, if selected, must set and shoot their project in Cork City and/or county.

The award will be given to one successful project which will receive €8,000 towards the cost of production, along with support in terms of locations, production, mentoring and planning the film’s festival release strategy over the course of a nine month period.

In order to be eligible for the award, applicants must have full rights to the material they are submitting. Short film scripts, including treatments for documentary, of any style and genre will be accepted as long as they are between 7 and 12 pages.

Announcing details of the Short Script Award, Rossa Mullin, who runs Film in Cork said “The Short Script Award affords filmmakers in the region the chance to bring what are ideas on paper, to life on the big screen, which they may not ordinarily have the opportunity of doing. This would not be possible if it weren’t for the financial support from the Arts Offices in Cork City and Cork County Council, who have been an integral part of bringing this to fruition.”

Rossa continued “The process will see three to five scripts shortlisted by mid-January 2017, with those projects going forward for interview in February. By this time, the writer will need to have a producer and director on board to demonstrate how the script will be brought to life on the big screen. It is very exciting to see this Short Script Award in Cork, the first in the region since 2012, and we look forward to helping the selected project get made and seen by as wide an audience as possible.”

Film In Cork provides production, location and training services to those working in film, television, and animation. It also promotes and markets the Cork region locally, nationally and internationally as a wonderful place to work.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday, December 9th. Application forms and detailed guidelines for the 2017 Short Script Award can be found at
