Leading law firm FitzGerald Solicitors has welcomed solicitor Shane McCarthy to its team as a new consultant following a merger between it and Shane F McCarthy & Co. Solicitors in West Cork.

FitzGerald Solicitors recently merged with Mr McCarthy’s Skibbereen-based firm as a strategic move for growth and development.

With his expertise in the areas of judicial review, professional regulation and corporate governance, Mr McCarthy’s appointment as a consultant to the firm is expected to grow and enhance FitzGerald Solicitors’ specialities and client base.

Mr McCarthy who has over 20 years’ experience in the legal profession, has been Chair of the Censorship of Publications Board for the past three years and he is also a member of the Regulatory Board of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors as well as being a member of a number of other boards, including Extern, an all-island charity dealing with adults, children and communities who have been affected by social exclusion.

Speaking on his appointment, Philip O’Leary, Managing Partner of FitzGerald Solicitors said: “We’re delighted to welcome Shane McCarthy to our firm as we continue to grow and expand our range of services. We have had a long-standing relationship with Shane who is widely respected and regarded nationally for his professional expertise as a solicitor and for his commitment and experience on various boards.

We are confident that he will become an invaluable asset to our firm as a specialist with vast knowledge and expertise.”

Commenting on his appointment, Shane McCarthy said: “Partnering with FitzGerald Solicitors was a natural and welcome opportunity for me and my own legal firm. Being able to work as part of a large team and firm provides an exciting opportunity for me to hone the experience I’ve gained in the specialist areas in which I have practiced.

“Partnering as a consultant with FitzGerald Solicitors will also help them to develop a more specialised practice with expertise in professional regulation for example. This is an area of legal practice that has grown considerably over the last two years with ever increasing numbers of professionals being subject to regulatory oversight.”
