With just a few weeks until the Cork Women’s Mini Marathon it’s time to get into gear and what better way to get motivated than by joining one of Cork’s biggest teams? Last year over 100 dedicated ladies and a few brave men in skirts joined #TeamMercy for the 4-mile fundraiser, raising over €20,000 for The Mercy Cancer Appeal.

The Mercy Hospital Foundation is now inviting you to be part of their biggest team to date on Sunday, September 24th and lead the race against cancer, remembering loved ones who have faced the battle against it.

69 year old Anne Martin from Farranree has taken part in the Mini Marathon for the last 11years, raising funds for The Mercy each year. This September Anne will once again join #TeamMercy, with her granddaughter, 8 year old Ellen Martin, crossing the finish line with her.

A dedicated supporter of the Mercy Hospital Foundation, Anne said “My husband James was treated for cancer three times in The Mercy over the last 20 years, and the care he received on his cancer journey there was second to none. We have the utmost appreciation for all the staff in The Mercy, who on many occasions went over and above the call of duty for James; and it’s for that reason I choose to give back by joining #TeamMercy year after year, raising funds through the Mini Marathon.”

Anne continued “It’s not just James that they have helped; personally, I had a heart scan earlier this year in The Mercy and the nurse told me that the machine I was being tested on had been purchased with funds raised through the Mini Marathon!”

Proceeds raised by #TeamMercy this September will go towards The Mercy Cancer Appeal, which aims to raise €876,000 to fund key services and advancements in the treatment of and research into many cancers; and in particular The Mercy Cancer CARE Centre. The Cancer CARE Centre which will provide a quiet, safe place for patients and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis to come to receive support through their cancer journey.

Anyone running in aid of The Mercy will receive a t-shirt that they can personalise by writing in the name of the loved one they are running for on a customised front panel. These t-shirts will give each Mercy supporter the chance to honour the person who has inspired them to run in aid of the hospital.

Any ladies and wannabe “ladies” interested in taking part in the Mini Marathon, whether they choose to walk, jog, run, or even crawl, are assured a fun day out with family, friends or colleagues, followed by an exclusive after-party at The Old Oak with complimentary finger food, cocktails, and fun to help ease those tired muscles!
