ECO-UNESCO Launches Youth Climate Justice ECO-Week 2020

Young People across Ireland are joining ECO-UNESCO in a range of online events and activities to explore the topic of Climate Justice and how they can make more of an environmental impact.  ECO-UNESCO has launched a week-long initiative designed to give young people the knowledge and the skills to tackle environmental issues and climate change culminating in a showcase of young  people’s actions  

ECO-UNESCO is an environmental education and youth organisation that empowers young people to make a positive difference to the environment. Youth Climate Justice ECO-Week is one of several annual ECO-Weeks that will be taking place, each covering a different topic. The focus of this ECO-Week is CHANGE; the aim of these ECO-Weeks is to inform young people on how they can take action at an individual practical level and at local policy level. 

Elaine Nevin, Director of ECO-UNESCO said “We are delighted to have young people taking part in our Youth Climate Justice ECO-Week. We wanted to create a space where young people can meet like-minded people, learn from leading environmental activists, and create a discussion on these topics with key policy makers. These experiences are truly valuable for those who want to make a positive difference. We want to encourage young people to take positive action and make changes in their everyday lives” 

Young people will have the chance to meet with politicians and have their voices heard. They will also hear from other climate activists who have led the way in their communities. Those featured at Youth Climate Justice Week include Clodagh Kelly, youth activist and founder of SWAPSIES, Francis Duffy, Green Party TD, Rebecca Moynihan, Labour party Senator and Nayeli Jimenez, an international activist who has been featured by Teen Vogue, BBC and VICE for her activism against climate change. 

Workshops include Why Change? How to talk about Climate Justice, Who’s the Change? Meet the activists and How to Change? Meet the Politicians. To round up the week, ECO-UNESCO will host an awards showcase on Saturday to celebrate young people around Ireland who have been taking action in their local community.
