Local businesses are the heart of our communities, they are our family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbours. This year, more than ever, we are asked to support them, either by making the conscious decision to purchase from them or even spread the good word. For a country of our size, we are fortunate enough to have such talented business owners, with a passion and enthusiasm for what they do.

Daniel and Juulika Leahy of Carewswood Garden Centre and Café are a passionate and driven young couple who have combined their horticulture and culinary skills to provide the people of Cork with a beautiful garden centre and café. This year, they have gone and above and beyond to provide their customers with unique, bespoke and quality gifts. Aside from their gorgeous Christmas Hampers, they have also created their own “Gardeners Gift Guide” full of gifts that are a little out of the box, which is what we will all be in search of this very unique year.

The couple duo have designed two ranges of beautiful “Gardening Hampers” for adults and children. The adult range is made up of five different hampers starting from €30 to €100.  All hampers are presented in a vintage wooden storage crate and come in a variety of themes including “Bees, Blooms & Butterflies” and their “Carewswood Gardener’s Hamper” which is full of everything a gardening lover may need from kneeling pad, stool and gloves down, to their gorgeous basil and lemon thyme hand wash to get that soil out from those fingernails!

The children’s gardening gift hamper range is full of DIY projects kids can dive into. Ranging in price from €15 to €18, all hampers are also presented in a vintage wooden storage crate. Their children’s hamper range includes “My Garden Birds” the perfect gift for children to explore their creativity with a bird feeder, painting set and bird seeds. Children can also design their very own bird feeder and watch as they all come to eat from it. Another hamper in the children’s gardening range is their more advanced “I am a Gardener and Ready to Go” set, including everything a child needs to get to grips with nature, while having fun and getting creative at the same time.

Speaking about their range of unique gardening gifts this Christmas, Daniel Leahy said “We were delighted to be there for our customers over the past few months as they spent much of their time at home and in their gardens. This year more than ever, we all realised the importance of nature and the outdoors. We saw some amazing garden transformations and we’re very proud to have helped with that. This Christmas isn’t going to be ordinary and we wanted to provide people with unique and different gifts that they may have never thought about before. We are particularly proud of our Children’s Gardening Hamper range and hope it will inspire them to get creative and learn about nature. ”

A very special gift that Daniel and Juulika have also added is the Carewswood’s “Family Apple Tree” The small tree is made up of five different types of apples - Malus domestica “James Grieve”, Elstar, Golden Delicious, Jonagold and Summerred. The different varieties mean you will be able to enjoy five different flavours of apples. The apples ripen at different times, extending your enjoyment of this tree. Another of Carewswood’s unique and eye-catching pieces is their “Rust bird designed Fireball” which radiates heat in all directions with the moving flames providing a beautiful spectacle in the evening.

Carewswood provides nationwide delivery across all their products, and takes special care when packaging and posting living plants to ensure they arrive quickly and healthy.
