Brook Catering go Flipping Mad for Haiti

Brook Catering go Flipping Mad for Haiti

11 February 2010

Brook Catering are hosting a special Haiti Fundraiser, in aid of Plan Ireland's appeal to help the victims of the disastrous earthquake.

Officially known as Shrove Tuesday, on February 16th each of Brook Caterings sites and restaurants throughout Ireland will be donating 100% of proceeds made from their delicious pancakes sales directly to Plan Ireland, who are working on the ground in Haiti helping victims of the disaster.

With a total of fourteen Canteens and Restaurants throughout the country, Brook Catering serve over 7,000 customers every day. With so many people dining in their facilities it is the perfect opportunity to raise desperately needed funds for Plan Ireland, one of Ireland's leading overseas aid agencies.

Brook Catering are really pleased that they can involve all their sites in this fundraising activity and it comes at a very opportune time of year.   Pancake Day marks the last day before Lent, when many people will decide to sacrifice something for 40 days leading up to Easter.   Brook Catering decided to use this tradition to try and give something to people less fortunate, the people of Haiti.   For people not dining in any of the onsite facilities, there is the opportunity to get involved on the day by going along to the The Brook Inn, Glanmire, a sister company of Brook Catering which is also participating in the fundraising activity.

At just €2 for each pancake, founding Partner and Managing Director of Brook Catering, Liam Murphy, is hoping the event is a great success. Liam States: "The earthquake has dominated the news and the terrible scenes that we all witnessed really puts things into perspective.  Everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment, but when we witnessed the reports coming from Haiti we were desperate to help in any way we could.  We want everyone enjoying the facilities at our various sites to help support the event by buying a Pancake and hopefully together we will raise lots of money which will go directly to the people in Haiti and Plan Ireland's appeal."

Established in 2003, Plan Ireland is part of Plan International which itself was founded over 70 years ago. One of the oldest and largest international development agencies in the world, it currently works in 48 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas directly supporting more than 1.5 million children and their families and an estimated 9 million others living in communities working with Plan.   In Haiti Plan have taken the lead on child trafficking prevention and are working on the ground with displaced children, providing shelter, food and water and assisting the most vulnerable in the Haitian community.
