The Lakes 10k for Cystic Fibrosis

13 August 2010

The Lakes 10k charity run takes place around Blessington Lakes on Saturday 25th September in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI). Organised by the Lakeshore Striders, The Lakes 10k is now in its second year and will undoubtedly again be a popular event set to attract 600 participants.

Over 300 people have already signed up to participate and anyone signing up before Monday 16th August can purchase a specially designed tech t-shirt. The entry fee is €28.00 including the t-shirt and €18.00 for the non t-shirt entry (open until 9 September).

The race will be run on a fast and scenic route, starting on the Blessington Bridge and finishing at the Lakeshore amenity area; with great prizes for the top three men and top three women. All participants will receive a goodie bag on the day and other surprises all around.

Ace Autobody have very kindly came on board this year as the major sponsor, with Avon Ri resort also on board as Accommodation sponsor offering special rates for those wishing to join the after party that evening.

Organiser Lorna Brennan of the Lakeshore Striders said: “Lakeshore Striders Running Club is delighted to be hosting The Lakes 10k after an incredible inaugural running of the event in 2009. We received positive feedback from entrants, both in Ireland and abroad, and have again decided to keep the field to a small number of 600 participants for what will be a very enjoyable run around the Blessington Lakes. It is a fantastic opportunity for both our members and entrants to fundraise for an extremely worthy cause while at the same time experience a really great event.

“We are again hosting the event in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland, as one of our members Annmarie Kidd is the mother of a little boy, Jordan (aged 9) who is living with CF.  It is an opportunity to fundraise for a cause close to our hearts as well as a cause that is relevant to so many people on a national level.”
