Spring Clean for Charity Event Comes to Cork in aid of Cork’s St Vincent de Paul

23 June 2011

Norma Smurfit, the driving force behind some of Ireland’s best loved charities, was in Cork today to announce plans to bring a major fundraising event to Cork in aid of St Vincent de Paul, Cork.  The event is "Spring Clean for Charity" and will take place on Saturday 24thSeptember at Cork City Hall.

The Spring Clean for Charity sale will feature bric-a-brac, trinkets and fashion from all over the country.  Well-known personalities such asBill Cullen, Jackie Lavin, Lorraine Keane, Rachel Allen, Cara O’Sullivan and many others, have pledged to support Spring Clean for Charity in any way they can.

In addition to the well known celebrities and business people manning stalls on the day, the general public plus various groups and associations are being asked to take a look around their homes, offices, attics and garages, to clear out belongings that are no longer used, but which could be sold to raise vital funds for St. Vincent de Paul Cork.

Speaking about Spring Clean for Charity 2011, Norma stated "The response we have received from Cork already has been amazing, but not surprising.  Everyone said when we brought the event to Cork, we would get a very warm welcome!  Already so many people have pledged their support by taking stalls at the event.  One example is Caroline Counihan and her team of Managers at Brown Thomas in Cork, who are going to take time out of their busy schedule to man one of the stalls, as are many Network Cork business women.  We want as many groups, organisations and individuals to join us, take stalls and do something really positive for the Cork community."

She continued, "St Vincent de Paul, now more than ever needs our support and Spring Clean for Charity is a fun way, with friends, family or colleagues, to raise funds that will go directly to people in need in Cork –it is also a great excuse to have a good clear out of all those items cluttering up people’s homes and businesses."

Taking a stall is free of charge on the day, but all proceeds must go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Cork.  To book a stall, simply visit the Spring Clean for Charity website at www.springcleanforcharity.ie and register your interest.

Brendan Dempsey, Regional President of St Vincent de Paul commented "This is such a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for people in need in Cork.  The past number of years has put enormous strain on our resources, but we are always humbled by the goodness of people when times are tough.  The event in September is going to help us so much as we prepare for a very challenging Christmas season and we would ask everyone to support in some way, either by taking a stand, perhaps donating unwanted bric-a-brac or volunteering on the day.  All help will be gratefully accepted." he concluded. For further information on Spring Clean for Charity contact Dearbhla Meaney, White Diamond Events; help@springcleanforcharity.ie (086) 8221751.
