Easter Eggs-travaganza @ the Killarney Outlook Centre In aid of Bee for Battens

27 March 2012

Celebrities will be in an abundance on Easter Saturday 7th April, at the Killarney Outlet Centre when it hosts a ‘Beat the Celebrity’ cycle race as part of a variety of fundraising activities for all the family in aid of Kerry based National charity Bee for Battens.

Visitors to the Killarney Outlet Centre will get to meet with the likes of Kerry footballers, Darren O’Sullivan and Kieran Donaghy, professional boxer Wille Casey, and Ireland’s 2011 Cycle Team of the Year “Cycling For Sick Children” and  many more. Visitiors will, for a small donation, get the chance to see who can travel the furthest distance in the shortest time frame on specially outfitted static exercise bikes inside the centre.

Special guests, Kerry School of Music, Killarney will also make an appearance.  Former European Boxing Champion, Willie Casey will also be giving a professional boxing exhibition and will give local boxers from all over Kerry the chance to pick up a few tips.

There will also be a host of fabulous entertainment and fun for all the family including a bouncy castle; face painting; balloons; and a “Sweets and Treats” decorating class courtesy of JustCooking.ie at 12pm, when Chef Mark Doe will help kids decorate Ginger Bread Houses, Cup Cakes and of course, Easter Eggs!  JustCooking.ie will also give one lucky dip prize to one of the kids to attend their Summer camp!

And if all the excitement is making you hungry, BBQ expert all the way from the USA, Mike Corcoran, proprietor of Mike’s BBQ, Clonakilty, will be serving mouth watering hot dogs with his signature BBQ Sauce and all of the proceeds from the BBQ will go to Bee for Battens.

This wonderful event is being organised by Tony Heffernan, Founder of Bee for Battens, who set up the charity with his wife Mary to provide parents, families and all those affected by Battens Disease in Ireland with a support network and a credible source of information.

Tony states, “Battens Disease is a rare neuro-degenerative condition that affects babies, young children and juveniles, and is always fatal. Mary and I set up the charity after our late daughter Saoirse was diagnosed with Battens Disease, as at the time there was simply no-one in Ireland who could provide the information and support we needed. Our wonderful son Liam is also diagnosed with Battens Disease and we are forever grateful for all the support we have received so far and I hope we can raise lots of money at the Killarney Outlet Centre to help many other families, who’s children have been recently diagnosed with this rare disease.”

Paul Sherry, General Manager at the Killarney Outlet centre, is really looking forward to the event “Easter is always a special time at the Killarney Outlet Centre with lots of visitors to Killarney as well as locals making a pit stop at the Centre during the weekend. This fundraising event is a great way for families to spend a fun day together and at the same time, help Bee for Battens. We are delighted to help with the cause in any way we can.”

This year’s Easter event will also see the return of the ‘Money Tree’ where raffle tickets will be sold for only €5 and participants will get the chance to win one of the following great prizes:- a weekend family break for two adults and two kids at Select Hotel’s wonderful 4 star Westgrove Hotel in Kildare; an Army Surplus Warehouse 4 person tent; a fashionable men’s Smith & Jones hoody from The Josef Store; and a pair of Keen sandals from Kerry Outdoors Sports. One lucky winner will get to go on a fabulous shopping spree at Killarney Outlet Centre, with a massive selection of vouchers from the Nike Store, Claire’s Outlet, Mods & Minis, BModa, Camille Lingerie and Pavers, worth in excess of €200.

The fundraising event takes place from 12pm - 6pm on Saturday 7th April, and to carry on the Easter Activities, Killarney Outlet Centre will host a fun Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday at 1pm.
