Irish YouTube sensations, Seo Linn to headline Cork Rebel Week concert in Port of Cork

Irish YouTube sensations, Seo Linn are set to headline Ireland's first ever ‘sail-in' concert at the Port of Cork on Saturday 19th October as part of Cork Rebel Week's ‘International Cork Gathering Event'. 

The FREE event is one of the flagship events of the Festival, being run jointly by Cork City and County Councils and supported by Fáilte Ireland and a wide range of local organisations, celebrating Cork's rich heritage and strong identity, with over 150 leisure, entertainment and corporate activities from 14th - 20th October.

Having racked up over 2.3 million YouTube hits with their stunning Irish version of TG Lurgan V Avicii - Wake Me Up, and over 200,000 views of their Late Late Show performance earlier this month, Seo Linn are on fire right now.  The group of Irish language teachers are responsible for bringing fresh life to the Irish language, by performing their unique interpretations of chart topping music including Fun's ‘Some Nights' and Daft Punk's ‘Get Lucky'.

Seo Linn will take to the main stage at Custom House Quay at 8pm and the performance will culminate with the ‘Ultimate Gathering' on land and water, an enormous mass flash mob including Celtic drummers, Irish dancers and hundreds of students from CIT, UCC and Irish Societies from across County Cork, performing on Kennedy Quay and on one of the international Naval ships docked in the Port of Cork in spectacular fashion. 

Tickets for this one off gig are FREE of charge (limited to 2 per person), and will be distributed through a lottery system amongst people who register for the ticket lottery at www.corkrebelweek2013.com.

Seo Linn's performance will be the culmination of an exciting afternoon, jam packed with events and activities throughout the city to celebrate Cork's biggest ever Gathering event, including an International Marching Band Parade, International Food Village, and Naval Festival. 

Kicking off festivities at 4pm, Cork's World Champion hero Rob Heffernan will lead the Marching Band Parade from Patrick's Hill, through the city, finishing at the Port of Cork. International Marching Bands hailing from Germany, UK, France, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic and Italy will battle it out to be crowned Cork Rebel Week 2013's ‘Best Marching Band'. A tasty array of culinary delights will be available at the tented International Food Village located at the Port of Cork, which for the weekend is also home to an impressive international fleet of naval vessels from Belgium, France and Ireland located on Albert Quay, Kennedy Quay and North Customs House Quay.

Speaking about what promises to be one of Cork Rebel Week's most exciting events, Lord Mayor, Cllr. Catherine Clancy said "Cork Rebel Week is a festival celebrating Cork's rich heritage and strong identity, and on Saturday 19th October we will do just this with a massive street party for everyone. This may be the first Cork Rebel Week, but we in the city and county are hoping that through the Gathering initiative we have created an annual festival for Corkonians far and wide, which will give us and everyone with a love of Cork, lots of reasons to come and enjoy our special region."

Cllr Clancy added "We're encouraging Corkonians from all over the city, county and abroad to come and join in the festivities and mark what will be Cork's biggest Gathering event this year. We've a fantastic line up of events with something for all the family to enjoy throughout the day, so make sure to mark the date in your diary and don't miss out!"

From 5.30pm, Cork bands and performers will take to two stages; the main, ticketed stage at North Custom House Quay, and a second, non-ticketed stage at Kennedy Quay, to entertain revellers. Expect crowd pleasing performances of ‘The Langer Song' by Natural Gas, as well as ‘Will we be Brilliant or What?' and ‘Orca the Killer Whale' (who came into the Port of Cork!) by John Spillane.

Due to high demand, admission to Seo Linn's performance will be strictly limited to ticket holders chosen in the ticket lottery, but for those not lucky enough to get their hands on the ‘money-can't-buy' tickets, all activities and performances will be broadcast live on two massive screens facing the water at Custom House Quay for boats and yachts, making this Ireland's first ever ‘sail-in' concert; and another one facing Kennedy Quay, which is open to the public on a first come, first served basis.
