The Imperial Hotel to host Black Tie Ball in aid of the Children’s Leukaemia Association

Supporting their charity partner, the Children’s Leukaemia Association, The Imperial Hotel will host the second annual Children’s Leukaemia Association Black Tie Ball at the hotel on Friday, October 13th.

The Gala Ball promises a spectacular evening, with supporters of the Children’s Leukaemia Association (CLA) and friends of The Imperial coming together to raise funds for this worthy cause which assists families throughout Munster. The evening begins with a Taittinger Champagne reception at 6.30pm, followed by a gourmet five course dinner with wine and an amazing line up of live music performances throughout the evening.

A diagnosis of Leukaemia, cancer and other blood disorders has a profound effect on a child, their families, friends and schools; and the CLA supports and assists families in any way possible during and after a child’s treatment. The highly anticipated gala event on October 13th will raise funds for services which range from providing financial support to families for all the exceptional needs of the child and their family, from initial diagnosis across all stages of treatment including palliative care and funeral expenses; to funding ongoing education for staff, counselling and play therapy; as well as providing a home-from-home apartment for use by those families that have to travel distances while their child receives treatment.

This is the second year of the CLA’s charity partnership with The Imperial Hotel; and in 2016 alone The Imperial, which is part of Flynn Hotels, raised in excess of €12,800 for the charity through a series of events and fundraisers, including their Charity Black Tie Ball. This money was used to provide initial diagnosis payment for 17 families who were diagnosed with Leukaemia or other cancers last year, and funds were also used to provide a bone marrow transplant grant and funeral expenses. The charity also took 12 children and the parent to Lourdes, on what is an annual trip the charity makes with the children and their families.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s Black Tie Ball, Frits Potgieter, General Manager of The Imperial Hotel said “We are thrilled to lend our support to the CLA, who are doing tremendous work in helping families in need of support as they go through such a difficult time in their children’s lives. At The Imperial we are committed to doing everything we can to help raise awareness of the devastating impact of Leukaemia on families, and aim to raise as much funds as we can for the crucial services that help those in need of it most.”

Rosarie O’Donovan, Director of the Children’s Leukaemia Association said “We are thrilled, that as a Cork-based charity, that one of Cork’s finest hotels has raised awareness and support from its customers and clients, bringing to their attention the Children’s Leukaemia Association and the work we do, as we rely entirely on voluntary donations from the public to maintain and develop the services we provide to the children and their families. We are very grateful and appreciative to the Flynn family of Flynn Hotels, and especially to Frits Potgieter and all his team at The Imperial Hotel, and we look forward to a wonderful night at the ball on Friday.”
