"Children of Burkina Faso, a Day in the Life" - Plan Ireland presents a Photographic Exhibition by Finbarr O’Reilly, World Press Photo Winner at the Malton Hotel, Killarney.

06 November 2009

Last night Plan Ireland, the children's development agency, hosted a photographic exhibition featuring photographs from World Press Photo winner (2005), Finbarr O'Reilly at the Malton Hotel Killarney. The exhibition entitled "Children of Burkina Faso - A Day in the Life" depicts images of daily activities of children in Burkina Faso, West Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world. The exhibition was attended by many Kerry supporters of the organisation. Town Mayor Michael Gleeson spoke passionately about the work carried out by Plan Ireland at the event. Plan Ireland Chairperson and founder Jane Clare also spoke at the event.

The exhibition supported by Western Union contains over 40 photographs reflecting the central themes that make up Plan's development work - health, education, livelihoods, habitat and relationship building. It is part of an ongoing campaign by Plan Ireland to tour Ireland, meeting the many sponsors and stakeholders who have been supportive to the work that the NGO carries out in 48 developing countries throughout the world.

At the event Sponsorship Manager Mike Mansfield stated; "This event is an opportunity for us to show people in the Kerry area the work we carry out.  We have over 8,500 sponsors throughout Ireland and over 400 of those come from Kerry. This is our way of saying a special thank you to our Kerry sponsors as well as introducing Plan Ireland to many more Kerry people in a personal way."

Mike and members of the team, Niamh Sheehan and Head of Programmes Damien Queally are to visit St. Brigid's Presentation Secondary School today in order to paint a picture of life for children of a similar age in developing nations.

The Photographic Exhibition will continue throughout Ireland over the next number of months. More information on the Exhibition and on Plan Ireland can be found on www.plan.ie or by calling Freefone 1800 829 829.
