The year of the Golden Tiger starts with a ROOARRRR at the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant

26 February 2010

On the 24th February, the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant on Cook St, Cork celebrated the Year of the Golden Tiger, with an event held at the premise. Guests were invited to the Ambassador, one of Cork's most established restaurants to celebrate the Chinese New Year, a festival which lasts for 15 days and this year began on 14th February.

On arrival guests and onlookers were amazed by the UCC Wushu Club with a 30 minute martial art display at the front of the restaurant. Guests were then treated to a selection of canapés showcasing the variety of Chinese cuisine available at the restaurant.  Christy O'Sullivan from Classic Drinks, who has been a supplier of the Ambassador for over twenty years, then held a wine tasting session, recommending different wines to compliment the diverse variety of Chinese dishes available at one of Cork's leading restaurants. Magician Liam Sheehan added a magic sparkle to the evening with his range of entertaining and mindboggling tricks, some of which had a special Chinese theme.

William Wong considers himself very much a Corkonian, although born in Hong Kong. When his parents first came to Cork in early 1970's they ran the Yangtze River, one of the first Chinese take-aways in Cork, which was located on Barrack Street and then started the Ambassador twenty-three years ago. The building is almost 100 years old and retains the charm that has helped to make the Ambassador the favourite Chinese fine dining experience in Cork, serving the people of Cork and visitors to Cork since 1987.

William said "The Chinese have a passion and pride for great food. We here at the Ambassador Chinese Restaurant take immense pride in offering the best of local meats and seafood in our extensive menu. Tonight you will have a taste of some of this food and I would like to thank our brilliant and talented team here at the restaurant that makes the atmosphere of our restaurant so special through their attentiveness and attention to detail."

William, his brother Jimmy, sister Linda and other family members answered questions from guests ranging from the different Chinese dishes available to how they celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The Golden Tiger is said to appreciate luxury and enjoy the good things in life, a fitting description of an evening at The Ambassador Chinese Restaurant.
