13 September 2012

BioMarin hosted its first ever Biotechnology Career Day at their Shanbally facility on Wednesday 12th September, with approximately 1,000 job applicants in attendance. The event followed the June announcement of the global biotech company's expected expansion into Ireland, which anticipates the creation of 100 plus jobs in the 2013-2015 timeframe.

The event offered potential candidates the opportunity to learn about BioMarin and prospective roles, as well as meet hiring managers and core team members. Dr. Robert Baffi, Executive Vice President of Technical Operations, and Andy Ramelmeier, Vice President of Manufacturing and Facilities, gave presentations on BioMarin, explaining how the company develops and commercializes therapeutic options to treat rare diseases. Through its extensive expertise in research, development, regulatory affairs and manufacturing, BioMarin strives to provide treatments for patients around the world suffering from rare diseases.

Each of the day's multiple sessions involved skilled applicants attending in the hope of making an impression with BioMarin. Speaking at the Biotechnology Career Day, Dr. Baffi stated "We were overwhelmed with the phenomenal response we received following the announcement of this, our first ever Career Day in Ireland. The calibre of applicants we have met is impressive and I'm confident we will build a strong team here in Ireland based on this. This is a very exciting time for BioMarin, and indeed for the Cork region, and we anticipate that additional positions will open later this year."
