    Bank Holiday "Pink Ribbon Walk" in Clonakilty raises 8,500 for Action Breast Cancer and aims to become an annu..

    The bad weather did not deter over five hundred people from taking part in a "pink ribbon walk" in Clonakilty for Action Breast Cancer which raised 8,500 for the organisation. Wearing mostly pink, people registered for the walk at Fernhill House hotel, Clonakilty where they made a suggested donation of 10 or a personal donation to the charity.

    Irish Times journalist, Brian O'Connell launched his book "Wasted - A Sober Journey through Drunken Ireland", on Firday the 23rd of October at the Kingsley Hotel in Cork. The book, published by Gill and Macmillan has been described as an honest,unflinching account of life as a problem drinker, tracing both Brian's personal relationship with alcohol and Ireland's relationship with alcohol.

    It has just been announced that Sharon Commins and her fellow hostage Hilda Kawuki will be awarded the first Hugh O'Flaherty International Humanitarian Award in Killarney on Saturday November 7th. Last year Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty (1898-1963) was awarded a posthumous Killarney International Humanitarian Award in recognition of his selfless humanitarian work in Italy during World War II which saved the lives of over 6,500 people. It was decided that this award would be an annual award and re-named in honour of the Monsignor.

    Nine year old, Sinead Fox cycled over 100 miles from Newry to Donegal and raised E1,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI). School girl Sinead, from Thistlecross, Dundalk, Co. Louth took just two days to cycle 101.5 miles from Newry to Donegal.
