    Colm Moloney, MD, of Headland Archaeology (Ireland) Ltd has said that Archaeologists in Ireland must diversify into other sectors if the industry is to survive the recession in Ireland. Speaking from their base in Little Island in Cork, Mr Moloney stated that during the economic boom, Ireland became a mecca for Archaeologists which was fuelled by massive infrastructural development coupled with stringent regulation of the treatment of cultural heritage by developers. However, at the beginning of 2008, the golden age of Archaeology came to an abrupt end.

The launch was attended by over 100 people including cycling legend Sean Kelly who has supported the charity cycle for the past four years. The cycle will take place from the 12th to 15th of August and will see over 100 amateur cyclists cycling over 600km around the six counties of Munster in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI Munster branches) the chosen beneficiary of this year’s cycle. It is hoped that this year’s cycle will raise €100,000 for the charity.

Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland is very concerned at an increasingly likely delay in the long awaited Cystic Fibrosis (CF) ward and day centre in St Vincent’s Hospital as a result of what appears to be in part a row over funding for a car park for the hospital. “I can see no justification for the HSE delaying funding for life saving CF services in Ireland, particularly when it appears to involve a row over car park that was completed five years ago” said Philip Watt, CEO of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.

    There was no shortage of ideas at Sunday's Wedding Fair hosted by Fernhill House Hotel in Clonakilty, with over 400 people in attendance. From magicians, musicians and photographers to cake makers, invitation designers, florists and vintage cars, there was something for every bride and groom to be. Guests enjoyed champagne and hot and cold canapés in the foyer of the hotel before meeting the exhibitors in the Kilgarriffe suite and the main ballroom.

    AID workers from children’s charity Plan International are in a race against time to help survivors of the devastating Haiti earthquake. Disaster experts from the NGO are expected to arrive in the country today (14th) to work alongside local specialists as they assess immediate needs and begin providing emergency food, water and shelter. A massive appeal has been launched focused on helping children most vulnerable in the wake of the disaster.
