CUBS Conference to explore the changing ‘Workforce of the Future’ Thursday, March 8th Cork Opera House

Following the success of the inaugural Cork University Business School (CUBS) Conference in 2017, CUBS is pleased to announce details of its 2018 conference, titled ‘Workforce of the Future’. Taking place on Thursday, March 8th in Cork Opera House, Ireland’s largest student led conference will challenge and explore our changing workforce, with a number of expert guest speakers and panelists from the spheres of business, finance and technology sharing their insights on the topic.

Open to both students and the business community, delegates at the day-long event will hear from speakers including Dragon’s Den investor Barry O’Sullivan, CEO and Co-Founder of AltoCloud; Founder of Boutique Bake, Catherine Buggy; Yvonne Frost, Head of People Organisations at Poppulo; Michelle O’Donovan, CEO of TAPSTAK; DC Cahalane, CEO and Co-founder of Republic of Work; and Kevin O’Leary, CEO of Qumas; with more speakers to be announced.

The conference also coincides with International Women’s Day and the morning will kick off with a panel on Women in Business, the conference will hear from Siobhan Talbot CEO of Glanbia, one of Ireland’s most senior businesswomen.

The student-focused conference is organised by students from Cork University Business School’s Accounting and Finance Society, Business Information Systems Society, Commerce Society, Entrepreneurial and Social Society, Economic Society, and Foodies Society, all of which are based in UCC; and over 900 delegates are expected to attend on March 8th.

Speaking about the upcoming event, the newly appointed Dean of CUBS, Professor Thia Hennessy said “The way in which we work is transforming and this year’s conference will focus on the future of our workforce and how it could look very different in years to come. We are seeing constant changes, especially with advances in technology, influencing a number of sectors.”

Thia continued, “One of our core values in CUBS is to create a stimulating learning environment and provide industry focus which is underpinned by intellectual contribution and research. The CUBS Conference is fantastic way for students to gain practical experience, and provides them with an opportunity to engage with industry leaders and influencers, ranging from start-ups to full-fledged multinational businesses.”

Effective since January 2015, CUBS at UCC is one of the two largest business schools in Ireland; and is already home to the largest number of full-time undergraduate students in any business school in Ireland and the second largest number of full-time postgraduate students.

Together with the recently acquired Irish Management Institute, CUBS is also the largest provider of executive education in Ireland. The former Cork Savings Bank building on Lapp’s Quay, which UCC purchased in 2016, is currently being transformed into a state of the art centre for executive education to be launched later this year.

Sponsors of the 2018 CUBS Conference include Bank of Ireland; the Local Enterprise Offices in Cork City and county; Accenture; and media partner, Irish Examiner.

The CUBS conference will run from 9.45am to 3.45pm on Thursday, March 8th in Cork Opera House, and student tickets are priced at €10 each, with corporate tickets available for €50, including a light lunch.
