The Classic bar and nightclub on South Main Street in Cork is set for a new lease of life following an investment of over €1 million.

Two young and well-respected Cork publicans - Phil Ryan and Eamon Walsh who bought the venue this year have ambitious and exciting plans for the venue which has long-been a popular haunt on Cork’s social scene.

More than 50 jobs will be created, once renovations are complete and the venue is open, with the first phase due to open in mid-May.

Phil Ryan, former manager of Voodoo Rooms, Sober Lane, An Bróg and Barbarossa spoke about the big plans they have for the place. “We are really excited and looking forward to our new venture. We believe there is a gap in the market, especially for the over 23 year-old demographic so our goal and efforts are to bring something new and exciting to the city. We are investing heavily in this venture such is our belief that through our experience and knowledge we can bring something very special to Cork’s social scene. We have some great plans in place and will be putting a huge emphasis on food served until late followed by live music and Dj’s, ideal for big group nights out. The feedback and support we’ve had suggests that there is a huge appetite for a venue just like we’ve planned.”

The full redevelopment of the bar and nightclub will take a few months to complete but work has already started and the first phase is scheduled to be open in mid-May.

Eamon Walsh, well-known event manager in Cork explained: “Although we have many years’ experience managing venues in the city, this our first venture into the business out on our own so it’s exciting and of course a little daunting for us. It represents a hugely significant investment of over €1 million which is why the extent of the renovations will take some months to complete. However, we are on track to have the first phase of the bar up and running by mid –May, just in time for summer. As a result we hope to fill the majority of the 50 plus vacancies that we have on offer as soon as possible.”

The new bar, which is yet to be named, will also serve food seven days a week until 10pm and will include a separate brunch menu at weekends.
