This Christmas the people of Cork will get the opportunity to remember and honour loved ones at the ‘Remembrance Tree’ in aid of the Cork Association for Autism at Douglas Court Shopping Centre throughout December.
The ‘Remembrance Tree’ gives people the chance to take a moment during the hectic festive season to remember loved ones who are no longer here in a special way. Christmas can be a very difficult and sad time without loved ones who are sadly no longer with us, and a simple gesture to pay tribute to them is by placing a special card on the ‘Remembrance Tree’ located in Douglas Court Shopping Centre.
Donations made at the ‘Remembrance Tree’ will go towards the Cork Association for Autism, which provides a non-clinical, home away from home in a stress-free environment for people affected by Autism and Asperger Syndrome in Cork, some of whom are members of the Young at Heart Douglas Seniors, who once again helped to decorate the tree this year.
Young at Heart Douglas Seniors’ group is an organisation that helps the elders by providing services and skills to assist them to lead a more active and healthy life and overall to help promote social engagement and reduce loneliness; giving them a sense of belonging in their own community.
The ‘Remembrance Tree’ is now up in Douglas Court Shopping Centre, and the public are invited to call in any day, write a card, place it on the tree, and enter their loved one’s name in a book which will be placed on the altar in St Patrick’s Church, Rochestown; to be remembered at a special Mass in January.
