The English Market, Ireland’s oldest indoor food market, has undergone a significant transformation as almost 60% of the stalls have undergone renovations and refurbishments and with more intending to do so in the near future.

The world renowned market is an iconic place in Cork and the Market Traders pride themselves and their stalls on top quality service have taken steps to make sure they give their customers the best shopping experience as possible.

Speaking about the renovations, Manager of The English Market Órla Lannin said “The Market is looking fantastic and the traders have really upped their game and transformed their stalls to lift the overall appearance of the market and give customers a more enjoyable shopping experience. In the last two years we have transformed a huge proportion of the market and so far it has got a great reaction. It’s very positive to see all these wonderful changes that individual traders are making and investing into their stalls here at the Market. "

The market, which celebrated its 229th Birthday this year, has accommodated hundreds of stalls and traders over the last 229 years and is still thriving due to its character, produce and ability to keep up with customer expectations and requirements.

Head of the traders committee John Boyling welcomed also the improvements “We are offering high quality service and produce in The English Market so it’s important that we give the right impression and look the part also. The market is such a fantastic place to work and I am truly proud of it, over the last two years we have been gradually improving the market and will continue to do so. We want customers to enjoy their experience as much as possible.”

Earlier this summer, The English Market also revealed its new and improved Grand Parade façade with flagpoles restored to the front of the building, which now proudly display the Irish tricolour and Cork flag.

All Market entrance signage has been updated to reflect the new English Market Cork logo. Trading since 1788 the renowned food market plays an important part of food culture in Cork, with an emphasis on fresh, local, produce as well as traditional Cork foods, as well as providing an array of international produce.
