Vast Majority of Irish Workers Feel Safe in their Jobs

07 April 2023

● 76% of Irish workers feel ‘secure’ in their current role
● 48% aim to counter inflation by asking for a raise in 2023

A recent workplace sentiment survey, commissioned by leading Irish recruitment firm PE Global, found that almost three-in-four (76%) Irish workers feel secure in their current jobs. The survey, conducted by research agency Bounce Insights, profiled over 1000 full-time workers nationwide, across multiple professions and sectors including technology, pharmaceuticals, construction and healthcare.

The survey also found that despite most workers feeling secure in their current role, 48% stated that they plan to ask for a raise in their current salary this year.

Other good news stemming from the research found that 43% of workers plan to stay with their current employer for more than four years with just one in ten expecting to leave their current job within the next 12 months.

Keith McDonagh, Managing Director at PE Global commented on the findings, stating, “This positive news highlights that despite the recent unsettling reports in relation to the current economic climate and lay-offs in the technology sector, the vast majority of workers feel safe in their current role - which is very reassuring.”

McDonagh added, “ At PE Global, we felt it was important to examine the current jobs market to be armed with the most up to date insights so that we can best support both our clients and candidates. From this research, we can see that the majority of employees would like to stay with their current employer but that they will be requesting an increase in salary to do so. Therefore, employers that offer packages to help to alleviate inflation, to new and existing employees, will help to attract and retain the right, qualified talent.”

Just over a quarter of employees mentioned that a greater work-life balance would be the main reason they would consider moving jobs in 2023, with 43% citing a higher salary. PE Global is a multidisciplinary, Irish recruitment firm with offices in Cork, Dublin, London and India and works with some of the world's leading multinational firms across pharmaceutical, renewable energy, cloud data services, medical device, healthcare, life sciences and engineering, as well as a selection of Ireland’s leading public sector bodies.
