The Irish Indie rock band will lead the way as festival celebrates ‘30 Years’ landmark

Cork Pride has announced Ireland’s Eurovision 2023 stars Wild Youth as its headline act for its ‘Party at the Port’ event taking place on Sunday, 6th August, which will close out the 2023 Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival.

The band behind ‘We Are One’ will be performing just two months after representing Ireland at the annual Pop spectacular, this year to be held in Liverpool.

The dates for this year’s week-long Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival have recently been confirmed and promise seven days of celebration and entertainment. Beginning on Sunday, 30th July, the curtain will come down on Sunday, 6th August - with the full festival line-up announced in the coming weeks.

The theme for this year’s Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival is ‘30 Years On...’, marking the 30-year anniversary of the 1993 decriminalisation of homosexuality in Irish law.

Speaking about the 2023 Cork Pride Festival, Clive Davis, Chairperson at Cork Pride said: “We are thrilled to have Wild Youth as our headline act for this year’s Cork Pride parade afterparty. Last year’s festival was a huge success as our first in-person festival post-Covid, but this year we are back even bigger and better. Over the years, the Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival has grown significantly in terms of attendance, popularity and success, and this year we aim to continue this trend!”

Mr. Davis continued: “This year’s theme ‘30 Years On..’ reminds us how far we have come as both a community and a country, as consecutive Governments have legislated to progress, protect, and enshrine the rights of LGBT+ citizens across the State. David Norris paved the way over 30 years ago for LGBT+ rights and this year’s festival will be in celebration of those rights and what rights are hopefully to come for the generations that follow us.”

Cork Pride supports and encourages a positive social, cultural and economic landscape for the Cork LGBT+ community. Each year, the festival includes events and initiatives such as its Family Fun Day, Work With Pride Diversity and Inclusion Conference and the much-loved Cork Pride Parade followed by the Party at the Port. Last year, the 2022 Pride Parade drew a crowd of almost 15,000 people, while the overall attendance for events across the week was over 30,000.
