Back By Popular Demand! Killarney on Ice

17 November 2009

Killarney on Ice is back where it belongs, at the Christmas in Killarney festival.  The business community in Killarney has come together yet again for the good of the Festival and by doing so has secured the popular attraction for the festival in 2009.  To also help guarantee that the Ice rink will remain a major attraction of Christmas in Killarney, a five year plan was presented by Killarney on Ice to Killarney Town Council, involving the purchase of various equipment. This proposal involved commitment from the business community and at a meeting this week, this commitment was confirmed.

Tom Randles, Joint Chairman of the Christmas in Killarney Committee stated; "We are proud of the fact that we have brought such a popular attraction to Kerry and Killarney on Ice has become synonymous with the festival.  Christmas is about having fun with friends and family and despite the recession the Christmas in Killarney committee, with the help of the Killarney business community, Killarney Chamber of Tourism & Commerce and Killarney Town Council we are doing everything to make sure that this festival is the best one to date. We would urge the wider community to ensure Killarney on Ice is a massive success by enjoying the facilities which will be running throughout December and on into the New Year.  By ice skating this year you are ensuring the return of the ice rink for the next number of years."

Sponsored by the Killarney Advertiser and the only Ice Rink in Kerry, even west Munster, Killarney on Ice will continue to allow kids of all ages have great fun during the run up to and during the holiday season. Over the last few years Schools and Youth Groups have added it to their activity schedule and many businesses from far and wide have used it as a team building activity before their Christmas Party.

Killarney Town Mayor Michael Gleeson stated, "It would have been a great shame to lose the Ice rink this year and because of all the cut backs Christmas in Killarney were struggling to find the funds. We are so pleased that the community has rallied together to support the ice rink and it is just another example of how Killarney business work together for a common goal."

Local promoters Brian Magee & Tim O Donoghue of Killarney on Ice stated "We are delighted with the support of the local community to date and we look forward to the continued co operation and to providing a top class Ice Rink for the people of Killarney and Kerry."

Killarney on Ice will be opening at the start of December in an exciting new location. Tickets range from €15.00 (Adults), €10.00 (Children) and €12.00 (Secondary School Children). For further details, visit www.christmasinkillarney.com.
