Christmas in Killarney's first ever Santa Fun Run was a great success

23 December 2009

It was a kid's dream on Saturday as Killarney was taken over by a stream of Santa's to help support the 5th Annual Christmas in Killarney Festival.

A delightful one hundred and fifty Santa's in total took part in the event, with a great mix of couples, families, work colleagues, young and old, not to mention dogs, all taking part.

Guests included the Mayor Michael Gleason, who officiated the race, Niall Botty, who was MC, and also a huge presence from the Killarney Rugby club.

Local resident Martin Crowley won the race on the day and Maureen Harrington was the first lady to finish the race and also came second overall. There were also lots of spot prizes given out on the day for best dressed Santa's.

Organisers Catriona O'Callaghan and Oliver Kirwan were amazed with the turnout. Catriona states,

"We were absolutely delighted of the huge turnout and the money raised will help greatly towards the continued success of the Christmas in Killarney festival. We would like to thank everyone again who took part and looking forward to doing it all again next year."
