Rescue Me! The First Ever World Rescue Challenge in Ireland Comes to Cork

Rescue Organisation Ireland (ROI) in association with the World Rescue Organisation, are bringing the World Rescue Challenge to Ireland for the first time on September 3rd - 5th, 2010. The Event will bring over 400 visitors to the city centre and is estimated to bring over €100k in revenue to Cork over the three days - a great boost to the local economy!

With up to thirty teams taking part, The World Rescue Challenge is an international Fire Services event that involves national rescue organisations coming together from every corner of the globe, including the USA, South Africa, Russia & Europe, in a competition to enhance, maintain & improve emergency procedures and techniques for dealing with road traffic collisions.

Cork was chosen over a host of other cities bidding for the International Event due to the compactness of the city, access to Europe and World transport links, variety of accommodation and leisure options available, not to mention Cork's growing reputation as one of the friendliest places to visit in the world (as voted by Lonely Planet 2010).

The successful bid was won in association with the Cork Convention Bureau who were able to assist with resources, liaison with national and local stakeholders, assistance with bidding process and general liaison point between Hospitality and Facilities Providers and Conference Organisers, Rescue Organisation Ireland.

General Manager at the Cork Convention, Evelyn O'Sullivan, is delighted to welcome the event not only to Cork, but also to Ireland, for the first time: "Both the Cork Convention Bureau and the World Rescue Organisation organising committee, headed up by chairman Phil O'Hare, have put a lot of effort into this event to make sure Cork is showcased internationally in a very positive manner. The event itself will take place in the Port of Cork with accommodation and social evenings all happening within walking distance. This is one of the most enviable aspects of hosting an event in Cork - the compactness of the city and the large range of top class hotels and restaurants."

To date there have been ten WRC's which have been held in Australia 1999, Scotland 2000, South Africa 2001, the Czech Republic 2002, Canada 2003, England 2004, New Zealand 2005, South Africa 2006, Spain 2007, Wales 2008 and Germany 2009.
