The Nokia Digital Media Awards 2012 "Love Digital" launch took place today at the Trinity Science Gallery, where 200 heads of the digital industry were in attendance, including judges, sponsors, and previous winners!

The event kicks off the new partnership between the Digital Media Awards and Nokia, the headline sponsor for 2012, and gave up and coming companies and hopeful future winners of the Digital Media Awards the chance to learn about this years' new categories, network with other individuals and companies in the sector, and watch presentations from former Digital Media Award champions!

Entries for the Nokia Digital Media Awards 2012 open on October 3rd, at which time submissions are welcome across all 23 categories until the closing date, November 21st.

Launching the awards, Communications Minister, Pat Rabbitte T.D stressed the importance of small businesses, getting involved in the Awards "Digital Media Campaigns provide a great opportunity for smaller firms to target their markets – both local and global effectively.  The barriers to entry are low.  The bandwidth is available.  It’s a matter of mindset and creativity not one of IT or big investments".The winning entries in the Nokia Digital Media Awards 2012 will be announced at the Awards ceremony on March 30, 2012, taking place at the Convention Centre, Dublin. Commenting on its partnership with the Digital Media Awards, Sian Gray, Head of Marketing at Nokia Ireland, said: "Nokia believes in investing in the future and is constantly striving to push the boundaries of technological advancement, so teaming up with the Digital Media Awards is a natural fit for us. The awards acknowledge the front runners in Irish digital innovation and Nokia is proud to support such excellent, home-grown talent".

This year organisers have introduced 10 new categories, predominately focusing on digital/integrated marketing on both national and international scales, gaming/animation, and mobile app development.

The10 new categories are:

1.    Best SME Using Digital/Integrated Media

2.    Best Use of Digital for Marketing Overseas

3.    Best Digital Marketing Campaign by an Agency

4.    Best Digital Marketing Campaign by an Irish Business

5.    Best Integrated Media Campaign

6.    Best Use of Animation in a Campaign

7.   Government to Consumer Innovation

8.    Best App for an Event

9.    Best App for a Business/Brand

10.    Most Useful App

These 10 categories were developed to ensure that the Nokia Digital Media Awards remain current within the ever evolving digital landscape, and allow it to highlight new digital trends that both agencies and businesses alike are employing to further develop the digital sector.
